Christmas Light Extravaganza Tour 2014!

Ever since I’ve been a mom, Christmas has been one of my favorite times of the year. I love taking a step back in time to remember Baby Jesus. I love the hot chocolate, Christmas trees, and most importantly, I love the memories I am creating with my children. Between the presents and the crazy Christmas schedules, Christmas can become hectic and expensive, but I will always prioritize these precious Christmas memories with my kiddos.

We usually make it a tradition to make it to Opryland Hotel, as they do a fantastic job with their lights, but I have to admit that the older I become, I do get tired fighting crowds and getting up close and personal with the other Christmas lights admirers.

This year I wanted to do something different, crowd-less, and free.  I found this wonderful website that listed many of the Christmas lights around town and decided to plan an excursion with kids and hot chocolate in tow.

Whenever I try something different and new, I’m always wary of what the outcome may be.  My family and I were not disappointed in the least bit. We chose a route in the Brentwood/Franklin area that included 3 houses.

  1. Our first stop: 1956 Sunnyside Dr. Brentwood, TN 37027. This house boasts 135,000 lights and even allows for you to walk through their driveway to get a more up close and personal look. Santa was also stationed outside for pictures. This was an impressive home!
  2. Our second stop: 213 Lipton Court Franklin, TN 37027.  This house literally had their own radio station with a synchronized music and light show. We found a spot to park to listen to Christmas music and watch the show. This was totally worth the risk to do something different from Opryland Hotel, and again—it was free!
  3. Our final stop for the evening. This house had a life size nativity set, helicopter, music, and light show, and the list goes on. 2613 Old Charlotte Pike Franklin, TN

This whole excursion took us a total of 2 hours.  Again, this was a free experience and my children loved every minute of our “tour.”

The older I become, the more I realize that Christmas is less about the extravagant gifts, but more about the time and the precious memories that we create together as a family.

Our experience has definitely made the list for “Kay’s favorites.” I love my town!
